Torremolinos Leads The Increase In National Tourism Throughout Spain With More Than 339,000 Overnight Stay In July.

Torremolinos, August 25, 2021. The mayor of Torremolinos, José Ortiz, today described as “excellent” the data that places the city as the tourist destination in all of Spain that has increased national tourism the most last July. Specifically, and as published by a national media outlet, 339,494 hotel overnight stays by Spanish tourists were registered, 116,986 more than in the same month of 2019, in the summer prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thus, the mayor has assured that «these data support the city project that we have for Torremolinos as a safe and quality destination in which we continue to work», recognizing the role of the tourism industry and especially the hotel, hospitality and leisure sector , «How bad they have been for a long time.» «Although we still have one last effort to overcome this pandemic, we can verify that tourism in Torremolinos is in very good health, we continue to be leaders and this encourages us to continue working with all our strength and enthusiasm,» he said.

In addition, the City Council has made public that since last January there has been a 28.7% increase in Social Security affiliates in the municipality, going from 16,792 in January to 21,586 last month; 4,794 more people. On the other hand, regarding the application for opening licenses, from January to July 2021 a total of 169 have been registered, when in the same period of 2020 there were 138, thus resulting in an increase of 31 applications; 22.4% more. “These are numbers that translate into employment and entrepreneurship; figures that show that Torremolinos continues to be an attractive city for investment and for economic activity ”, concluded the mayor.
