In case of displacement outside the national territory and to avoid the spread of diseases in men or animals, there are a number of things to take into account:

RABIES IDENTIFICATION AND VACCINE

The main requirement to travel to countries inside or outside the European Union is that the animal is properly identified and vaccinated against rabies (primary vaccination, at least 21 days before traveling; minimum age of the animal, 12 weeks, in case of revaccination, the vaccine is administered within the immunity period established by the manufacturer). All data must be on the animal’s card / passport / health certificate.

CONSULT WITH THE EMBASSY OR CONSULATE OF THE DESTINATION COUNTRY

Each country establishes the requirements that visiting animals must meet (specific import certificate model, official export certificate endorsed by the embassy or consulate).

PASSPORT

Necessary document for pets to travel through the European Union or access from other countries. Check with the veterinarian that the passport model is the current one.

ANIMAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE

It is necessary to travel outside the European Union. It is issued by a certified clinical veterinarian, who certifies that the animal does not present symptoms of infectious-contagious diseases, that it is vaccinated against rabies and in conditions of travel and any other point required by the country of destination. It is usually valid for a maximum of 10 days, depending on the country of destination.

More information on the page of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

OFFICIAL EXPORT CERTIFICATE

The animal’s health certificate must be accompanied by an official export certificate. It is a document issued by the official veterinary services of the Agriculture Areas of the Government Delegations and Sub-delegations. It must be issued according to the procedures of the country of destination.

RETURN

In case of traveling with dogs, cats and / or ferrets in a country that does not belong to the European Union, the protocols established for the return to Spain must be taken into account. It is important that professionals inform in advance of this point to avoid inconvenience to owners and animals. For more information, you can consult the CEXGAN import link or speak with the Spanish consulate or embassy of the country of origin.
